I, Kimberly Abelon, am running for State Committewoman in an effort to return the state Republican Party platform to a more Goldwater/Reagan platform - a platform which more strongly represents the original platform of the Republican Party. After talking with many, many Republicans, I am in agreement that the party is becoming a party which does not represent those of us who are Constitutional conservatives, that the platform no longer represents our core conservative values of lower taxes, individual freedoms, free markets, 2nd Amendment rights, a strong national defense and other deeply held conservative principles.

Few know that the State Committeeman and State Committeewoman elect the State Party Chairman. Few know that the State Committeeman and State Committeewoman can influence the party platform. This should not be a secret. The people need to have a voice and we, as active Republicans who want to make a difference and help the party, have a responsibility to return the system and the platform to the Republicans at large. We need to return to voting on the platform.

Why did I get involved? There were two options: I could sit at home and do nothing or I could get out and actively participate in changing the direction “we,” as a country and as a party, are going.

As a Republican I will work to shrink government, not expand it. I commit to working for the return of strict conservative values of reducing taxes, not raising them. Do we need so many government programs? …Probably not. We should look at abolishing unnecessary programs at every level of government, not creating more programs to burden the taxpayers of Florida.

I will work to promote the freedom and independence of citizens and will fight against the interference of government in their lives.

Lastly, but most importantly, I will observe the limited, enumerated powers of our Constitution, not ignore them.

If you want to Take the Party Back – vote for Kimberly Abelon on August 26, 2008.
